With a light sigh, she shuffled noiselessly in her seat as she propped her elbows on the cold hard surface of the table top. Almost immersed in her own day dreams she found herself lost in her thoughts as she her minds eye drifted across the pictures on the wall. History class was always so interesting Maddie loved learning about the different cultures though her own countries history was what interested her the most. It was just so interesting!
The door closed with a swift thud and she turned to see the short and round balding teacher flounce into the room. Inspecting him closely her violet eyes took in an unfriendly scowl. Oh dear, she hoped he was friendly. She hated it when teachers were cold and callous towards their students. Didn’t it kind of go against wanting to teach? She sighed and took out her note book as well as the thick brown history text book. She furrowed her brows and pushed up her glasses as she flicked through the pages skipping directly to the interesting bits.
“Now class.” began the teacher in a snooty upper-class tone “We’ll be starting a project today so I’m assigning each of you a partner.”
Maddie looked up curiously and blinked softly as the teacher began to read off the names of pupils who’d be pairing up to work together. She began to lose concentration again as her violet eyes drifted back down onto the pages below.
“Madeline Williams and Maria Beilschmidt,” said the teacher. Maddie shot her head up as she searched for her partner, her eyes landed on a tall girl with long silver blonde hair and unusually red eyes. Oh, did that make her Albino? Maddie pondered the thought for a moment before she joined the rush of students who moved to sit with their partners. She took her books in her hand and held them close to her chest as she wandered nervously to the table Maria sat at.
“H-hello,” she began her stutter becoming more pronounced “I’m Maddie I guess we’re partners today.” She said softly offering the taller girl a friendly smile.

Maria was bored. And that was bad, considering that she could very well drop a lighter into the teacher’s trashcan while ‘innocently’ throwing a paper away. Watching that bastard flounder around would be a welcome start to her day. A slight smirk graced her lips at the thought, tapping her fingers on her desk as she watched the professor enter the classroom. Oh, so it was a new one this year?
…What a fat asshole. Maria cackled under her breath, leaning back in her chair and slowly tearing up the piece of paper in her hands. She didn’t even bother opening her textbook, and instead raised an eyebrow as the teacher announced they were dividing up into partners. Great. A project. Not that she was going to do it.
Who the hell was Madeline Williams? The Prussian girl repressed a scowl, not recognizing the name and not even bothering to move. Gott, this girl better not be some sniveling servant trying to get into her awesomely good graces. She was going to strangle that bitch – ooooh.
Her eyes flicked up to the girl, her mouth almost falling open. Damn, was this girl adorable!
“Ja, I guess we are.” Maria grinned, her voice warm as she gestured for the girl to take a seat. Sitting forward on the desk, the Prussian tilted her head to get a better look; this little mousy girl seemed quite interesting. “So Madeline, huh? That’s not awesome at all. Way too formal.” She rolled her eyes and snorted. “I’m calling you Maddie! At least until I give you an awesome nickname, ja?” Maria grinned cheekily, not even paying attention when the teacher continued with what they were doing for the project.
“The hell are we going to do for this damn thing, anyway?” she groused, pouting ever so slightly at the thought of working. “Any ideas, Maddie-cake?”

It was wrong to judge and Maddie did feel a bit bad but she’d assumed that she’d be a bit of a bitch. But she didn’t seem to be which was great, she wouldn’t have known how to of handled it if Maria was mean, finally she dismissed those thoughts and returned the warm smile. Shuffling her papers together Maddie flipped open her history book and turned to the chapter the teacher had instructed them to read. It seemed the whole chapter was based on European history and the task the teacher had set was for them to pick one of the countries and make a huge information page on its early history. It seemed really interesting, and there were so many countries to choose from!
She blinked softly as Maria told her that her name wasn’t awesome enough. Was Madeline to formal sounding? But she’d met so many other people here with really long names. She was almost lost in thought and flushed her cheeks embarrassedly as she broke out of her thoughts. “I-I guess it’s a little long.” Said Maddie softly slightly bewildered. To tell the truth most people did call her Maddie, she only really got Madeline when she was in trouble with her mother or if one of the Professors spoke to her. She pressed the ends of her fingers together as she “Okay, most people call me Maddie anyway.” Said Maddie happily. She cocked her head to one side as her bright violet eyes studied the board. It seemed as though she had been right in her assumptions, pick a country and make an information page. It didn’t seem to bad.
“Oh,” said Maddie “I think we have to pick one of the countries.” Said Maddie flushing a little from the nickname, She indicated to the list of countries in the contents page of the history book “t-then we need to write a big information page on their history.” She said almost rambling her words together nervously. “It could be interesting.” Said Maddie as she twisted the end of one of her long braids around her fingers “What country do you think we should pick?” she asked with a little smile as her eyes studied the page. ... | notes - study buddies!words - 381credit - paddy, on the edge! |
