- Strong - Not as strong as his brother, but Gilbert can at most match him in strength.

- Resilient - He won't give up very easily.
- Quick Thinker - He thinks fast and can come up with good solutions under pressure.

- Ill-tempered - He can be quite irritable at times. It's easy to get him annoyed and sometimes it's for the littlest things.

- A Flirt - He doesn't say anything about his success rate, however.

dislikes:
- Losing - He's not exactly a sore loser but he hates knowing when he's beat.
- Rules - Being a prankster, he sees the rules as any prankster would; Annoying.
- Getting too attached to a girl - He likes flirting. It's his favorite game he's not necessarily good at but he hates it when he actually gets attached to a girl. It's happened before. And it's taken more than a few beers to make him snap out of it.
- Gambling - Probably the only vice he will never like. You see, he's terrible at it. He's lost more than a couple of thousands to gambling.
personality:
Gilbert is a strong willed creative young man who's more than a bit too proud of himself. He's a prankster at heart and uses his creativity to that end. He's quick to flaunt his accomplishments and his gallant stature but when he's on the prowl for a good prank, he can be quite discreet. He regularly boasts about only being caught once. Although he's never actually told the entire story about that one time. He'd rather not.
He enjoys flirting with girls. It's more or less a game to him. And although he'd rather not say about his success rate he's seen more success than you'd first think. There have been times he's fallen for a girl he was hitting on. Gilbert enjoys being single and he intends to keep it that way. It's taken quite a bit of beer and brainwashing from his friends to cure a bite from the love bug.
He likes beer. He had his first Beer when he was only fourteen and something about his German blood just had it implanted in him that Beer was very good. He constantly smuggles Beer into school. He's hasn't been caught for that yet. Another thing he prides himself on.
He's not the best in his class. He usually spaces out during class, either working on another prank or scoping a target outside the window. He does his best to at least stay in school however. He still knows what his family has in store for him when he graduates and with only two more years in school, he's going to make the best out of it.
Still, despite all this, Gilbert is kind at heart. He cares deeply for his friends and will go to extended lengths to help them. He loves his sibling(s) as well, more than he'll ever let on.
He figures he'll go along with the life laid out for him but he always secretly hopes something amazing will happen. Something that will tear that boring future life to shreds.
history:
The Beilschmidt name is one of the names associated with high society. A wealthy, high-class family that attempted to live more like the common folk. Doing strange things such as living in an ordinary house rather than a mansion. Such was the meaning this name held held by its relatives.
To Gilbert Beilschmidt, however, it's just a last name that's hard to spell. He never liked the rich, snooty aristocrat relatives he was always forced to interact with at rich snooty parties. He just liked his family's name because it meant he could waste as much money as he wanted. Because his wealth allowed, Gilbert developed some interesting hobbies.
He started collecting swords. He'd even taken the time to learn how to use them. Under the consent of his parents, of course. Also painting. He was a pretty good painter and his parent's money let him develop his talent with the finest equipment. It was one of his favorite things to do by himself but not many people know about it.
He fully supported his parent's wish to be more normal. They'd still have a lot of money and he could interact with nice people while avoiding his annoying cousins who wouldn't stop blabbering about polo.
Naturally, it didn't bode well for him when his relatives suddenly decided to interfere and made him and his sibling(s) attend a fancy shmancy rich kid school. He hated it first. It was only until they decided to let in normal people into the school did he finally utter the words 'I cant wait for school, tomorrow.'
He looked forward to this new school environment and he wasn't afraid to voice it out. He couldn't wait.

(( Set in this universe. A piece of Gilbert's childhood. Not necessarily true because it involves Ludwig, lol. ))
"Oh Gott." the white haired youth sputtered, blood trickling down his hand. Gilbert grimaced, forcibly closing one of his red eyes. The pain started seeping into the cut as he dropped the sword he was practicing with. The steel made a loud clang as it hit the wooden floor. He trotted to the first aid kit his brother always made him keep nearby when practicing and tipped over the contents. He managed to apply the disinfectant while enduring the pain but started fumbling with the medical gauze.
"Do you need some help, Bruder?" a voice called out into the room. "Scheisse." Gilbert muttered. He had his back turned to the voice. He tried to finish wrapping the wound before his brother came but, with only one hand, it was rather hopeless. His younger brother approached him, Gilbert spotted his blond hair in the corner of his eye before he stood next to him. "Rather than hide it any further, I suggest you let me help you. You'll never get the gauze on with one hand. Gilbert lowered his head. "...Fine." he said softly, handing the gauze over to his brother.
"L-Ludwig... Can you not tell Mama?" Gilbert asked, looking away as Ludwig proceeded to wrap his wound up. "Hmph. I believe I have already done my part as your brother by letting you use a sword without supervision. I've told you several times, Gilbert. You need a teacher." Ludwig said as he continued with the treatment.
Ludwig's expression softened a bit. "But...Seeing as how this is the fifth time you've cut yourself up and asked me to keep quiet, I don't see how it makes much of a difference." the young blond said as he finished winding the gauze tightly around the cut. "Remember to wear long sleeves to dinner." Ludwig reminded Gilbert, fastening the steel pin to the two ends of the gauze. It was done.
"Ah, right. Danke, Ludwig. For the advice... and treating my wound." Gilbert said, muttering that last part. Ludwig smiled. "You seem to be improving." He said, picking up the sword from the floor. He handed it to Gilbert, giving him a little smug look. Gilbert took the sword and returned the look with a grin. "I was pretty awesome, wasn't I? Did you see my footwork? I worked on that the most. I figured I would work on my power slashes when I get stronger." Gilbert said, a small glisten in his red eyes. "When I master the sword, I'm gonna teach you too so we can have duels!"
Later that evening, however, Gilbert forgot to wear long sleeves to dinner and his parents found out about his 'solo practice'. He was given a sword instructor after that.
